Like I said in earlier posts, most of the decisions you make to buy a rifle will be on your personal preferences. In this paragraph I will review what you must look at for your personal preferences. First things first is the shape of the rifle. If you have bony shoulders you most likely aren't going to prefer a hard stock, because if you shoot a big caliber rifle a lot your arm will start to get sore. So I suggest to get a rifle with a good stock or even buy a separate stock that forms to your shoulder. Weight is another factor as you don't want to be caring a giant brick. It really depends on what you wish to be doing because if you have a gun that weighs a ton and plan on standing while shooting you probably would like a lighter fit. If you plan on target shooting it is most likely best to get more of a hair trigger so you don't move so much while shooting.
In this paragraph I will explain what to look for when buying a new gun. First of all if the gun has been shot before, you will want to check inside the barrel and make sure it is not damaged or leaning to one side. And make sure you can examine every little spot on it to make sure it doesn't have anything that would cause you not to like it. If the storekeeper doesn't allow you to look at it go elsewhere. Now if you are looking to use this in self defense the best option is to go over and look at the pistols page as rifles aren't the best choice for close combat. Although if you live in the country you might want to invest in a rifle because of there great accuracy at distance. In the next paragraph I will explain what different calibers are available and what would be best in different situations.
There are many different sizes you can get your rifle in. It depends on a few factors such as where you live and what you are going to use the rifle for. If you are buying your first rifle you might want to get started with a smaller gun to get a feel for rifles because the smaller cartridges will flow through the air better and be more accurate (and cheaper). Some smaller cartridges are:
- .17 Hornady Mach 2 (.17HM2)
- .17 Hornady Magnum Rimfire (.17HMR)
- .17 Winchester Super Magnum (.17WSM)
- .22 BB Cap
- .22 Extra Long
- .22 Long
- .22 Long Rifle
- .22 Short
- .22 Winchester Magnum Rimfire (.22 WMR)
- .22 Winchester Rimfire (.22 WRF)
- .25 Stevens
- .32 rimfire (.32 Short and .32 Long)
- 5 mm Remington Rimfire Magnum
The bigger cartridges tend to be less accurate, because of many factors, but you definitely want bigger ammo for hunting.
Now that we have discussed the different things you will need to look for in a gun I think you are ready to begin the process of choosing on your own what gun you are going to purchase. If you are having trouble finding places to buy I am going to post different websites on a future page. If you have ANY questions please post them. I will be glad to help you as long as you specify what you want. Thank you for your support and have fun shooting!
